# Files

Open a Passport from the [Passports page](https://app.mdjusticepassport.org/litigantapp/passports) and click the "Files" tab.

You may need to click the three dots <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/three+dots+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> on the right side of the tabs menu to see the Files tab, especially if you are on a mobile phone.

The "Files" tab is where you can store documents, forms, photos, or screenshots relevant to your case. You and service providers can upload and download files. You can use this feature to put files in your Passport so that service providers can view them, and service providers can upload forms or documents for you to download and complete.

<summary>How to add a file</summary>

1. On the "Files" tab, click the "Add New" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+add+new+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> on the upper right of the screen.
2. Write a file name that will help you remember what the file is. A file name must be entered.
3. On the "File Attachment" field, click the "Add" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+add+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">. You can upload up to five attachments at a time. Once you've added the attachments, click the "Upload" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+file+upload+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
4. If you need to upload more than five files, click the "Add" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+add+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> again and you can upload up to five more files. You can continue to upload more files following this process.
5. The "File Description" field is optional. You can enter details about the file that may be helpful to you in the future, such as the date you received the file.
6. Click the "Save" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+save+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
7. After clicking "Save," you'll return to the "Files" tab.
8. To add more files, repeat steps 1 through 6.

<summary>How to edit a file</summary>

1. On the "Files" tab, you will see each of the files.
2. Click on the file name of the file that you want to edit to open the details for that file.
3. Click the "Edit" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+edit+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
4. Make changes to the file name, attachments, or file description. To remove an attachment, click the "X" <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+X+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> in the top right corner of the attachment.
5. Click the "Save" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+save+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> to save your updates.
6. To go back to the "Files" tab, click on "Back to (your name)" at the top of the screen. For example, if your name is Sarah Jones, click on "Back to Sarah Jones."

If you've started editing a file but decide that you don't want to keep the changes, click the "Cancel" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+cancel+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.

<summary>How to delete a file</summary>

1. On the "Files" tab, you will see each of the files.
2. Click on the file name of the file that you want to delete to open the details for that file.
   * On a computer 🖥️, click the "Delete" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+delete+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
   * On a mobile phone📱, click the three dots <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/vertical+three+dots.png" alt="" data-size="line"> to the right of the "Edit" button to reveal the "Delete" button. Click the "Delete" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+delete+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
3. Once you've clicked the "Delete" button, a box will pop up to confirm that you want to delete the file. If you are sure you want to delete the file, click the "Delete" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+delete+plain+button.png" alt="" data-size="line">. If you are not sure, click the "Cancel" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+cancel+plain+button.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
4. Once you click "Delete" the 2nd time to confirm that you want to delete the file, you may be directed to the "My Profile" tab in your Passport. To keep working on your files, click on the "Files" tab.

<summary>How to share a file</summary>

1. On the "Files" tab, you will see each of the files.
2. Click on the file name of the file you want to share to open the details for that file.
3. Scroll down to the "Share Files" section of the page and click the "Add New" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+add+new+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
4. Enter the email address of the person to send the file to.
5. Enter a message to let the person know what the file is about.
6. Click the "Save" button <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+save+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line">.
7. Once a file has been shared, the history of shared files will be shown and you can click on the "Date Sent" to see the details.
8. To share the file with another email address, repeat steps 3 through 6.

<summary>How to download a file</summary>

1. On the "Files" tab, you will see each of the files.
2. Click on the small image of the file. A preview of the file will be displayed or you may see a message that says, "This file cannot be opened."
3. Click the "Download File" button (arrow pointing down) <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+download+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> near the top right corner of the screen. The file will be downloaded to your device.
4. Click the "X" <img src="https://mjpwebcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/Stacker+file+preview+X+icon.png" alt="" data-size="line"> at the top right corner of the screen to close the file preview.
